LINCOLN — Piles of dirt, crumbling planters and broken benches are enclosed by chain-link fences along Lincoln's Centennial Mall.
The fences have been up for months in preparation for a multimillion-dollar renovation set to take place in the aging and deteriorating mall that connects the State Capitol to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's downtown campus.
