The Nebraska specialty license plate honoring Union Pacific’s 150th anniversary last year has won best new plate in the United States.

The Automobile License Plate Collectors Association voted the Friends of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum license plate as the best new plate in the country. ALPCA members, who are all over the globe, voted on the plate’s overall attractiveness and legibility as a tool for law enforcement.

The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles doesn’t keep numbers on organization plates, but director Rhonda Lahm estimated there are about 1,000 U.P. ones. The plates are issued only to Nebraska residents.
