Cool Ranch tacos coming March 7 at Taco Bell
Taco Bell fans can finally mark their calendars: Doritos Locos Tacos in Cool Ranch flavor will be launched March 7. The chain is rolling out the new variety a year after the Doritos Locos Tacos were launched in a Nacho Cheese flavor. Taco Bell says it already sold more than 350 million of finger-staining tacos, making them the biggest-ever product launch. CEO Greg Creed says he plans to keep introducing new Doritos flavors as well. Next up is a “Flamas” flavor, a Doritos variety sold in select regions of the country with higher Hispanic populations.
Retail sales hike is slight
Americans barely spent more last month at retail businesses and restaurants after higher taxes cut their paychecks. The small increase suggests consumer spending may be weak in the January-March quarter, which could hold back economic growth. Retail sales ticked up 0.1 percent in January from December, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. That follows a 0.5 percent increase in December and is the smallest in three months.
Apple cuts price of MacBook Pro
Apple says it has lowered the price of its 13-inch MacBook Pro laptops by $200 and updated its processors. It also launched new models with faster processors and more memory. Apple said Wednesday that the MacBook Pro with “Retina” display and 128 gigabytes of flash memory will now cost $1,499, down from $1,699. A new model with 256 gigabytes of flash will cost $1,699.The 15-inch model has a faster processor and the same price.
Growth slows for business stockpiles
U.S. companies restocked their store shelves and warehouses at a slower pace in December, a sign of caution as sales weakened. Slower restocking was a major drag on the economy in the final three months of last year. Business inventories ticked up 0.1 percent in December from November, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. That was below the 0.2 percent pace the previous month and the smallest increase since last June.
