Lincoln's first Dunkin' Donuts – at least its first in many years – hopes to be open by early fall.

The new store will be at the northwest corner of 27th Street and Old Cheney Road, just west of CVS, franchisee Bryce Bares of QSR Services said. It will be built from the ground up and include a drive through.

Bares said he chose the spot because of the lack of competition at the corner and its close proximity to residential neighborhoods.

"We like to locate as close to the neighborhoods as we can because we're often the first place people stop," he said.

Meanwhile, development of the Omaha area's third Dunkin' Donuts is underway at 48th and L Streets. Bares said he hopes to get that location open by early summer.

QSR Services owns the Dunkin' Donuts franchise rights in the Omaha area south of Interstate 80 and has a development agreement to open nine shops in Omaha and Lincoln by 2017. QSR already has two locations in the Omaha area: 10730 Q St. in Omaha, and at 72nd Street and Cornhusker Road in Papillion.

Another franchisee, Savoureux Corp., this summer opened the first of 12 planned stores north of I-80, at 144th and Pacific Streets.
