Happy birthday, Nikola Tesla!

The father of alternating current, radar, wireless communication—and just about everything electrical you can think of—is coming to Lincoln. Sort of.

On July 12, Lincoln's Turbine Flats Project, a collaborative startup incubator, will show off what it says will be the world's largest mural of the Serbian inventor. Local artist Amos Sterns has been working since April on the 1,500-square-foot mural which depicts Tesla's life.

It's all part of the "Day of the Innovator," a festival hosted by Turbine Flats to celebrate and promote innovation in the city of Lincoln. The event will feature a dedication from Mayor Chris Beutler, as well as science experiments for children and Tesla Roadsters on display.

"This celebration isn't about us, or even Nikola Tesla," said Turbine Flats Project co-founder Matthew Wegener in a press release. "It's about celebrating the spirit of creation in our city and about recognizing those who work to make something new that changes the way their respective field works. That's innovation."

The event runs from 4:30-10 p.m. at the Turbine Flats Project headquarters on 2124 Y St. "The Tesla Mural" will be unveiled at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
