RareWire's App Creation Studio aims to simplify building native mobile apps.

From beer and magazines to religion and tipping, apps in a variety of categories have been built using the App Creation Studio, the product of Kansas City, Mo. startup RareWire. Since its launch last October, co-founder Kirk Hasenzahl said more than 2,200 accounts have been created on the platform, and currently more than 1,000 apps are in development.

"We are excited, but still have more work to do," Hasenzahl (right) said. "At the end of the day, it is still something new to learn. For those that commit to it, the feedback has been incredible."

The Studio aims to simplify and expedite the process of building native mobile apps by only requiring the skills of a web designer, not a developer. The platform of the two-year-old startup had previously been – and still is – used internally to develop apps for clients using its own programming language, the Wire.

App Creation Studio launched with only support for app development in iOS, but the addition of Android is right around the corner.

"We are launching our Android engine in beta on Feb. 1, and believe users of the Studio will be excited to see how easy we make cross platform native app development, especially with the complex nature and multiple devices in the Android world," Hasenzahl said.

The platform is free to use, but users pay for the service when they publish an app – $99 for a one-time publish or $250 per month for unlimited publishing.

Here are a five apps, including three from Kansas City, that have taken advantage of RareWire's technology. (App descriptions from App Store.)
