SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — LG Electronics on Tuesday unveiled its entry in the curved smartphone market by introducing the G Flex, which features a curved display and battery.

LG joins Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest maker of smartphones, in rethinking the flat rectangular surface design of smartphones. But the two companies are showing off different curves with their latest devices.

The G Flex smartphone sports a display that curves inward from its top and bottom edges. The display on Samsung’s Galaxy Round curves inward from its right and left edges.

Samsung began selling its curved screen smartphone in October in South Korea. The G Flex goes on sale in South Korea on Nov. 12. Both companies have kept mum on overseas availability for the curved screen smartphones.

LG said the G Flex device is fitted with a curved battery that its affiliate LG Chem Ltd. began making in October.
