The Better Business Bureau will offer free shredding services from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 19 at Methodist Health System’s parking lot at 8511 W. Dodge Road. Businesses and individuals may bring up to three boxes or bags of sensitive documents for shredding.

The goal is to help prevent identity theft. The BBB said more than 9.9 million Americans were victims of identity theft last year, costing them roughly $5 billion.

“To avoid becoming a victim, be sure to shred any records that contain a Social Security number, bank account number or other personal and financial information before disposing,” said BBB President and CEO Jim Hegarty. “Protecting yourself is a must.”
