The Omni 4 Theater in downtown Council Bluffs is closed, owner Dennis Moran confirmed Tuesday morning.

“Yes, it's closed, I'm sorry to say.”

The four-screen theater at 300 West Broadway closed after this past weekend's showings. The cost of converting regular film projectors to the growing digital hard drive productions made it financially unfeasible, Moran said.

It would cost upward of $80,000 to $100,000 per screen to show digital movies, which all the major studios are beginning to use, he said.

Moran said the five part-time employees can move to other theaters he owns in Omaha, the Dundee Theatre and Westwood Cinema 8.
