Discount Tire plans to open four new stores in Omaha by the end of the year.

The company already has one Omaha location at 7808 Cass St. All the new stores will be built from the ground up, said Vice President Rob Wise, and are expected to open from October through December this year.

The new locations are: Evans Street, just west of 168th Street and West Maple Road, in front of Hobby Lobby; 120th Street and West Dodge Road, in front of Menard's; Arbor Street, at about 144th Street and West Center Road; and 186th Street and West Center Road, across 186th Street from Sonic.

Wise said the company has more than 800 locations nationwide but has plans to expand into Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri, where it has fewer locations.

The company's openings come in the wake of Calvert's Express Auto & Tire suddenly closing its stores in the area, one in Omaha north of 90th and Maple Streets and the other in Papillion. The owner of Calvert's Express Auto has not responded to requests for comment.

The Omaha auto service market is “oversaturated,” said Allan Harry, a controller with Jensen Tire & Auto.

Wise noted that Discount Tire performs only tire-related services on vehicles. The chain offers rims and tires for sale as well as tire rotations and repairs, but doesn't do other services. “There could be oversaturation there, but I'm not aware of it,” Wise said
