As a partner in the Fraser Stryker law firm, John K. Boyer has represented national and international clients, effectively utilizing his legal expertise.
He has served on several corporate boards, including the board of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company (a Berkshire Hathaway company).
For many years, the Omaha native was general counsel for the Greater Omaha Chamber. In 2005, he was the first attorney elected chairman of the Chamber’s board of directors, where he still serves.
Boyer provides legal advice and counsel to several charitable organizations. He is president of the Omaha Zoological Society and of the Omaha Zoo Foundation. During his 30 years as a volunteer for Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo, Boyer has participated in many of the major decisions regarding its growth.
Boyer also serves the Durham Museum as a board director, secretary and executive committee member. He also is secretary of the
Omaha Performing Arts Society board and of the OPAS Foundation.
A past chairman and current board member of the Mid-America Council/Boy Scouts of America, he was honored in 2004 as Citizen of the Year.
Boyer is a past member of the board of directors of the University of Nebraska Foundation and a current trustee.
He is a member of the board of policy advisers for the Peter Kiewit Institute at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and also serves on the boards of the Omaha Development Foundation and the Omaha Development Council Inc.
As an undergraduate at Southern Methodist University, Boyer spent summers working for the Omaha Public Power District. He graduated from SMU in 1966 with a degree in economics.
While attending the University of Nebraska College of Law, Boyer clerked for the Nebraska Department of Revenue in Lincoln and worked summers in the marketing department of Omaha National Bank.
In 1969, he graduated from law school, got married and joined the Fraser Stryker law firm, where he became a partner. He enlisted in the Nebraska Army National Guard and later became a captain and Staff Judge Advocate.
In addition to his legal and philanthropic endeavors, Boyer was an executive producer of “Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West” and a production executive of “Kilimanjaro to the Roof of Africa.” Both are large-format films.
Boyer and his wife, Lynne, have two sons, David and Michael, and two grandchildren.
