The Omaha City Council this week approved Walmart's plan to build a Walmart Neighborhood Market on North Saddle Creek Road. Construction of the grocery store is expected to begin later this year.

The old Target store, which has been vacant since 2006, would be demolished and the site converted into a Neighborhood Market, which would sell groceries and include a pharmacy.

Walmart has opened four of the smaller-format grocery stores in the Omaha area this year. A total of seven stores are planned, with the remaining Neighborhood Markets to open in the next 12 months.
