Omaha's first McAlister's Deli will open in the former Hooters at 12405 W. Center Road.

The first location will open by early October, with four more planned for the Omaha area, franchisee Bobby Salvo said. Construction is underway on the 5,000 square-foot fast-casual restaurant, which will feature an outdoor patio. McAlister's is known for its sweet tea, sandwiches, spuds, soups and salads.

About 50 people will be hired to staff the store.

McAlister's is a national chain with more than 300 locations. The first opened in Oxford, Miss., in 1989.
