Nebraska's unemployment rate held steady in January at 3.8 percent, the same rate as in December and a drop compared with January 2012, when the rate was 4.1 percent.

The number of unemployed Nebraskans grew 1.7 percent to 39,574, faster than the total labor force, which grew 0.5 percent to 1.04 million, or about 5,000 more workers.

January unemployment figures for Iowa will be released March 18.

The national unemployment rate rose in January to 7.9 percent, up from 7.8 percent in December.
