The head of the Nebraska Bankers Association said Thursday he is retiring after 22 years on the job.

Chief Executive George Beattie plans to retire in January 2015, according to a statement from the trade organization for the state's banks.

“George is well-known for his leadership and is held in high regard within the banking industry, both statewide and nationally,” said NBA Chairman John Stinner, CEO of Valley Bank & Trust Co. in Gering. “He has guided the association through good times and bad and has found ways to move the NBA forward through them all.”

The Lincoln-based NBA said the board has formed a search committee to find a successor.
