On May 8, you can take the kids to see a mermaid – and it's not Ariel.

Canned-tuna brand Chicken of the Sea is bringing its mermaid mascot, who has been redesigned since she first appeared in 1952, to Omaha as part of a 56-city tour in honor of the brand's 100th anniversary.

People can have their picture taken with the mermaid – who was recently named Catalina in an online contest – at an event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 8 at the Walmart at 6304 N. 99th St.

It's one stop on a six-month tour in a vintage Airstream RV that ends Labor Day weekend in Boston. Along the way the company, based in San Diego, will give away a total of $1 million in $10,000 grants to individuals and non-profit agencies to support community service work.

You can nominate a deserving organization at www.chickenofthesea.com/100.
