After three knee surgeries, Rose Nied's uncle told her "Come home -- we'll take care of you."

Nied loaded up her belongings, along with Wally, her shaggy 80-pound Briard dog, and came home -- to Omaha after spending 30 years in the San Francisco Bay area.

As the knees healed, the spunky former real estate agent recently decided to open a store, "Magpie -- Gifts for the Nest," at Rockbrook Village, and adopt a second dog, Lucy, a golden-hued standard poodle to keep watch over the new store.

Magpie aims to offer something for everyone, in its home decor featuring collectibles and mid-century modern furniture.

For stockbrokers, a pair of "Buy/Sell" cufflinks.

For those who want to look beautiful, Magpie carries jewelry made by Israeli designers, including Ayala Bar and Mariana.

And for those who want themselves, their homes or their dogs to smell divine, Magpie carries French quadruple milled soaps and scented Nest Fragrances and candles.

Nied also carries merchandise by local artisans, including glass artist Scott Winkler.

Magpie will hold a grand opening Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"We'll have some wine, some cheese," Nied said. There will also be door prizes and a coupon for 20 percent off purchases over $100 this month.

Magpie is located at 2814 South 110th Court in Rockbrook Village.
