How the Dow fared on Monday

(AP) - Stocks rose Monday, helped by signs that Washington was moving closer to a deal that would avert a default by the U.S. government.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 64.15 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 15,301.26.

The S&P 500 rose 6.94 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,710.14.

The Nasdaq composite jumped 23.40 points, or 0.6 percent, to 3,815.27.

For the year so far:

The Dow is up 2,197.12 points, or 16.78 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 283.95 points, or 19.9 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 795.76 points, or 26.4 percent.
