The governors of Nebraska and Iowa are to hold a joint press conference Friday morning to mark the start of a two-state economic development partnership for the Omaha-Council Bluffs area.

The official announcement will be made by Terry Branstad of Iowa and Dave Heineman of Nebraska, along with dozens of economic development officials from Pottawattamie County in Iowa and five Nebraska counties.

The Nebraska officials, including the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce staff, have been working together on recruiting, retaining and expanding business for several years.

As The World-Herald reported in December, the Iowa groups will be new partners in the plan, which is intended to offer expanded and streamlined services.

The press conference, which is not a public event, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at Gallup's Omaha headquarters.
