It's chilly this time of year and just about everyone and everything can use an extra layer, including the steel sculpture in the middle of the Main Street roundabout at Village Pointe shopping center.

The sculpture, “Reaching” by Peggy Ritschel, got an extra layer of fabric, yarn and quilted sections last month as part of an art-on-art installation.

Artist Dori Settles, creator of the textile installation “Aquarium at the Pointe” that currently adorns the sculpture, will visit Village Pointe on Sunday.

With help from the Omaha Creative Institute, Settles and fellow textile artists Missy Merriman and Diane Ostdiek created an underwater-themed piece that uses the existing sculpture as a framework for an under-the-ocean scene that features jellyfish, octopuses and other sea creatures.

The textile piece is expected to remain in place through April.

Settles and her team will describe the artistic process and demonstrate the knitting technique they used to create the work.

Sunday's free event will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the public sculpture. Free refreshments will be available.
