Factory Direct Appliance, which operates five showrooms in Kansas City, Mo., and one location each in Des Moines and Omaha, has been acquired by Ferguson, one of the largest plumbing distributors in the U.S.

The locations will operate as Factory Direct Appliance, a Ferguson enterprise. Financial details of the deal completed this week were not disclosed.

Dennis Birkestrand, Factory Direct’s chief executive, is exiting the business, but partners Rod Holsapple and Steve Johnson will remain in their current management roles, a Ferguson spokeswoman said. Factory Direct was founded in 1988. Other employees will remain, she said.

“Factory Direct Appliance is known for its longstanding relationships with both its builder and retail customers,” said Frank Roach, Ferguson’s chief executive.

Ferguson, a wholesale distributor of residential and commercial plumbing supplies and pipe, valves and fittings, has 1,350 locations the U.S., Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Caribbean. Ferguson is part of Wolseley PLC, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

It is the second appliance acquisition for Ferguson this year. In January, the company acquired Karl’s Appliance, an appliance dealer with six showrooms in New Jersey.
