Community woodworking space Bench is opening a retail store Saturday.

The opening of the 450-square-foot retail store at the front of the woodworking shop at 2452 Harney St. marks the community workbench space’s one-year anniversary.

The retail space will feature furniture and other items made by members of Bench as well as other locally handmade items, including T-shirts, bags and aprons and wall hangings.

“We’re really trying to get as wide of a variety as we can, with the focus always being that these things are handmade here in Omaha,” owner Ben Petersen said.

Bench operates as a co-working space for woodworkers and craftsmen, offering machinery, tools and space for its members. The business offers day passes and monthly memberships.

Bench will host a grand opening for the space on Saturday at 7 p.m. featuring baked goods from Bliss Bakery and coffee from Beansmith Coffee, as well as a “beard competition,” Petersen said.
