Steve Kathol has been tapped to serve as the fifth president of Omaha-based Schemmer Associates Inc. and will lead the architectural and engineering firm's operations in six regional offices.
Kathol replaces Frank Comisar, who has been with Schemmer since 1986 and has been at the helm for nearly a decade.
Before Kathol's appointment by Schemmer's board of directors, he served as manager of the firm's transportation engineering group, which delivers services related to bridge, highway and traffic engineering.
“There is nothing I value more than the commitment, creativity and strong work ethic of our team of professionals,” said Kathol. “We are proud of our past but look forward to the challenges and opportunities the future holds for us.”
Founded in 1959, Schemmer provides architectural, engineering and planning services for projects across 37 states. Besides its Omaha headquarters, it has offices in Lincoln, Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla.
Among its varied projects are the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Biomechanics Research Facility; Creighton University's Lied Education Center for the Arts; Omaha Business Park; Concordia Junior/Senior High School; Blair, Neb., Train Depot Renovation; and Madonna Manor.
Kathol, a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has been with Schemmer for 20 years. He also serves as president of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Nebraska and is past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers of Nebraska. He is active with several groups, including the National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers and Engineers Club of Omaha.
