A global manufacturer of animal vaccines for farm animals and pets is expanding in Lincoln.
Zoetis Inc., which is the former animal health business unit of Pfizer Inc., announced plans Tuesday for a 19,000-square-foot, three-story expansion at its existing plant located at 601 W. Cornhusker Highway. The expansion could create as many as 30 new positions during peak production at the operation, which currently employs 500. The plant is currently 1 million square feet
Site leader Michael Morgan called the expansion part of the company's commitment to the city of Lincoln. The Lincoln facility is one of the largest suppliers of the company's animal health products for the world. About 1,200 finished goods for more than 100 markets annually are produced there.

The expansion will “accommodate the transfer of products from a third-party manufacturer in Lincoln,” the company said in a statement.
“Zoetis is excited about the opportunity to expand its manufacturing footprint in Lincoln,” Morgan said.
A groundbreaking is expected for later this summer, though early planning and construction stages are underway. Construction is scheduled to be completed next year.
Last month, Zoetis became an independent company after a 60-year relationship as the animal health business under Pfizer. Zoetis, which discovers, develops, manufactures and markets veterinary vaccines and medicines, is headquartered in Florham Park, N.J., and has 29 manufacturing facilities in 11 countries. It employs more than 9,300 employees worldwide. Company revenue last year was $4.3 billion.
