Alaska Airlines will begin serving Omaha on Nov. 7 with one daily nonstop flight to Seattle.

It will be the first nonstop flight to the West Coast from Omaha since Frontier Airlines last year eliminated its nonstop flight to Los Angeles that it started in 2010. Omaha has never been served by Alaska Airlines or offered a nonstop flight to Seattle, said Chris Martin, Eppley Airfield director of operations.

He said about 67,000 people traveled between Omaha and Seattle in 2012 and Seattle ranks 15th in most-visited cities from Omaha.

“Not only will this service offer nonstops to Seattle but also open the door to quick connections throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska,” Martin said in a statement. “We welcome Alaska Airlines’ entrance into the Eppley Airfield-Omaha market, and look forward to a long and successful relationship.”

The flight to Seattle from Omaha will depart at 4:15 p.m. daily and from Seattle to Omaha at 10:40 a.m. daily. The regional jet will seat about 70 passengers.

Alaska Airlines is offering introductory one-way fares starting at $169 between Seattle and Omaha until July 4 for travel from Nov. 7 through Jan. 31. Visit alaskaair.com for more information.

Martin said the addition may spur other airlines serving Omaha to add similar routes. “That’s certainly one of our hopes,” he said.

Alaska Airlines also announced new nonstop flights between Seattle and Colorado Springs, Colo., and between Portland, Ore., and Tucson, Ariz., starting Nov. 1; and between Portland and Reno, Nev., starting Nov. 8.
