Fresh off his trip to UNL last month, Matt Damon returns to the big screen for the first time since 2012's "Promised Land." He stars alongside Jodie Foster in "Elysium," a film set in the year 2154, where the wealthy live on a disease-free, man-made space station and the rest in the humble, policed remains of Earth.

Neill Blomkamp, the 33-year-old writer and director of 2009 hit "District 9," wrote and directed this project, which also lists Sharlto Copley, the lead in "District 9." That science-fiction film grossed in excess of $210 million at the worldwide box office, more than seven times its production budget, and garnered four Academy Award nominations.

The latest three-day box office tracking numbers for domestic openings this weekend:

 » "Elysium," $33 million

 » "We're the Millers," $21 million

 » "Planes," $20 million

» "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters," $20 million
