LINCOLN — It's never too early to start thinking about the NCAA tournament. Two programs that narrowly missed a regional spot last year know that better than most.

Nebraska suffered a last at-bat title game defeat in the Big Ten tournament to end its 2013 season, losing out on the automatic bid and falling a couple wins short of an at-large berth. UNLV experienced a similar heartbreak, not included in the 64-team field by the selection committee despite ending the year with 37 wins and a second-place finish in the Mountain West.
