“The Sapphires,” a movie about a 1968 Australian girl band that sings soul music for the troops in Vietnam, will kick off the eighth annual Omaha Film Festival Wednesday.

The five-day festival will screen 91 films, including 16 narrative features, seven documentaries, four special screenings and 64 short films divided into seven sessions. All will be shown at Regal Cinema (formerly Great Escape), 7440 Crown Point Ave. Nightly parties at venues around the city will give film fans and filmmakers a chance to mingle and connect.
