Beautiful presentation, uneven preparation at west Omaha's Mai Thai
The pad wun sen at the remodeled Mai Thai was one of the praiseworthy dishes, with its perfectly stir-fried and well-seasoned glass noodles tossed with carrots, green onions, tomatoes, egg, bell peppers, bamboo shoots and cilantro.

Whenever I had a craving for curry or a plate of pad Thai in the mid-'90s, I'd head straight to H&I Cafe, a tiny, family-run joint on South 24th Street, where Somloy Joynoosaeng, a mother and chef, worked magic in the kitchen.
I still dream about her ginger chicken. Back then, there weren't a lot of choices when it came to Thai food.
