A 17-year-old Omaha Northwest High School student was charged Monday with second-degree murder in Friday's fatal shooting of Dominique Hollie, also 17.
Christopher D. Spears also has been charged with use of a weapon to commit a felony, the Douglas County Attorney's Office said.
The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. Friday at 3914 N. 54th St.
Hollie was a sophomore at Northwest. Spears was a junior there.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine offered this account of what happened:
Hollie and some friends had been in the basement of Hollie's house, which is near 54th and Spaulding Streets, when Spears made some sexual comments about Hollie's sister. Hollie went to his bedroom and grabbed a sawed-off shotgun, returned to the friends and said something to Spears. Hollie then took the shotgun back to his room.
The back-and-forth between Hollie and Spears continued. Spears then went to Hollie's room and returned with the shotgun. He told Hollie, “I'm going to shoot you” and shot Hollie in the face, Kleine said.
Omaha police arrested Spears a few blocks away from the shooting, near 52nd and Fort Streets.
