LINCOLN — The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's student newspaper will become a twice-weekly publication in the fall.
The Daily Nebraskan has been a Monday-through-Friday publication during the school year, but the university's publications board voted Thursday to cut publication to twice a week — Mondays and Thursdays.
Print readership and advertising are both declining, said Penny Billheimer, advertising manager. “Whatever we're doing now is not working,” said Tim Anderson, a member of the publications board.
The newspaper will shift its focus to online and mobile content.
“No matter what we do with the print, we're not going to get readers,” said Dan Shattil, general manager of the paper. “It's not going to generate revenue.”
Hailey Konnath, editor in chief of the Daily Nebraskan, said her staff is concerned about its ability to staff a newsroom for continual Web updates while also going to class.
