Throughout his more than 35 years of working in the energy industry, Jim Kusek said he has learned the most important thing when it comes to getting things done: relationships.
“The foundation of any good business is relationships,” he said.
Kusek, a Republican, said he aims to bring this component to the Papio Missouri River Natural Resources District Board of Directors Subdistrict 8 seat, which covers most of La Vista.
Kusek has worked for a variety of energy businesses, most recently for the Omaha Public Power District.
“I worked in the energy business for 35 years,” he said. “Energy is important, but so is the environment.”
Throughout his time in the energy business, Kusek said he excelled at forming complementary relationships with other public utilities and municipalities, at one time working with more than 30 organizations in seven different states.
“My forte is building relationships,” he said. “All that will do is strengthen our conservation efforts.”
Should he be elected, beside expanding the NRD’s relationships, he said he would like to look at how its programs are funded and how funding is related to property taxes, noting the most important relationship the district has is with the taxpayers.
Kusek said he’d also aim to improve this relationship as it has suffered due to a recent fight between the NRD board and one of its members, Scott Japp.
“It distracts from the great things this board has done since 1972,” he said.
Kusek said he has been very fortunate to work for so many great companies and build successful relationships.
“Hopefully, I’ll be able to capture one-tenth of what these people have done and bring it to this board,” he said.
