A 37-year-old Iowan was injured in a two-vehicle traffic accident Thursday night on Interstate 80.
The Iowa State Patrol said Ryan Schwery of Earling, Iowa, was injured in the 8:45 p.m. crash on westbound I-80 between Avoca and Minden. He was taken to a hospital in Harlan, Iowa.
The patrol said Schwery was westbound on I-80 when his 1991 Chevrolet Blazer developed engine problems and it began to slow. Tyler Mark, 24, of Lincoln, Neb., driving a 2008 Dodge van, came up on the slowing Schwery and was forced to swerve before striking the Blazer. Both vehicles spun off I-80 into the north ditch.
Mark was not injured, the patrol said.
The patrol said Schwery fled from the scene on foot but was later found near the crash scene at the Shelby County Inn in Shelby, Iowa.
