COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Council Bluffs school board on Tuesday voted 4-3 against a $5.9 million renovation project for Lewis & Clark Elementary School.
Board Vice President Bill Grove questioned whether the district could afford the project and how renovations would affect next year's school attendance. On Jan. 28, the board approved a $2.6 million renovation project for Franklin Elementary School.
Grove and board members Troy Arthur, Susan Reilly and Scott Hansen voted against the Lewis & Clark project. Board members Dave Coziahr, Jill Ogg-Gress and board President J.J. Harvey supported it.
Proposed renovations included a new security entrance, administration wing, kitchen, classroom space and restrooms. Other additions would include electrical upgrades such as occupancy sensors, fire alarms and a geothermal heat pump system.
