Omaha police arrested a 20-year-old man Monday morning in connection with a cutting just west of downtown Omaha that injured a brother and a sister.
Police said Dmitry Vanderbeek was arrested on suspicion of two counts of felony assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Lucia Francisco-Simon, 28, was taken to Creighton University Medical center in critical condition. Police said her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Her brother, Jacob Francisco, 33, was treated at the scene of the cutting, 124 S. 25th St.
The victims told police that they allowed Vanderbeek to spend the night at their apartment. When they awoke Monday morning, Vanderbeek began behaving strangely. After Francisco and his sister asked Vanderbeek to leave, Vanderbeek became combative, police said. Vanderbeek then grabbed a kitchen knife and cut both victims. Police said Francisco held down Vanderbeek until officers arrived to arrest him.
