Nikko Jenkins, accused of killing four people in August, now says he's entitled to $7.5 million.
The reason: Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine told The World-Herald that a state psychiatrist has found Jenkins competent to stand trial.
Jenkins filed a claim saying such “extrajudicial comments ... will directly instill prejudice and bias condemnation of me.”
Kleine said Jenkins' claim has no merit.
The $7.5 million he asks for is the same amount that the family of one of Jenkins' alleged victims, Andrea Kruger, is seeking in a wrongful-death claim against the state.
Jenkins also has decried his placement in the Douglas County Jail's segregated unit. He is scheduled for a competency hearing later this month.
