DES MOINES (AP) — An 18-year-old Des Moines man told police he stole a vehicle and drove it to a hospital because he feared for his life.
The man said he was robbed Saturday night by a 16-year-old acquaintance and was then shot in a leg after the robber told him to run.
The man kept running until he came upon a parked vehicle with its engine running.
The wounded man got in and drove to a hospital. He told officers he stole the vehicle because he thought it was his only chance to survive.
A witness said he saw the vehicle hit another vehicle in front of the hospital and then hit the hospital building near an entrance.
