A Douglas County judge on Tuesday ruled there was sufficient evidence to try three people on first-degree murder charges in connection with their alleged roles in an execution-style killing last October.
Prosecutors said Rodney M. Hunt, 31, was beaten and stabbed outside the Relax Inn Motel & Suites, near 60th and K Streets. The Omaha man then was ordered to his knees and executed.
Omaha police Detective Larry Cahill testified that Anthony Floyd, 23, shot Hunt in the head. Samuel Ochoa, 27, beat and stabbed Hunt, while Amber Perez, 27, told Floyd to shoot him, Cahill said.
The motive for the slaying was unclear. It appeared to have started after two other women -- Hunt's girlfriend and another woman -- had arranged a drug deal at the hotel.
Perez and her children, who were homeless, planned to stay in the hotel room where the deal was taking place. Ochoa, her boyfriend, and Floyd went to the hotel with her later, Cahill said.
