The City of La Vista has started a rain barrel cost-share program aimed at improving the environment along Thompson Creek.
The city will pay a 50 percent match — up to $60 — on qualifying rain barrels, which capture stormwater off a home or other building that ultimately could cause flooding, pollution and erosion.
Funding is available to applicants in the Thompson Creek watershed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Priority will be given to residents who live within the watershed, or generally between 72nd and 84th Streets. Other residents in the watershed are encouraged to apply, but will be put on a waiting list.
Applications are due March 7. They are available at cityoflavista.org/thompsoncreek and La Vista City Hall, 8116 Park View Blvd.
