The Taco Ride, a Thursday evening bike ride in Iowa, hit the small screen in a new national television commercial.
The Jennie-O Turkey Store commercial followed cyclists along a 10-mile stretch of the Wabash Trace Nature Trail from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa. At Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse, where the riders typically enjoy beef tacos before their return trip, Jennie-O replaced the meat with their brand of ground turkey.
“I'd feed my kids turkey tacos over regular tacos any day,” said one cyclist between shots of people chowing down.
The commercial is part of Jennie-O's Make The Switch campaign, which challenges people to use ground turkey instead of ground beef.
“We're out to show that it's easy to eat well without sacrificing taste,” Jennie-O's director of marketing Jen Ehresmann said in a press release.
A Jennie-O employee from the Omaha area mentioned the taco ride at work, prompting the commercial. It was filmed in October and aired for the first time Dec. 30, 2013.
