Unpredictable winter weather has made it tricky to run a skating rink at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
The rink opened one day later than planned on Dec. 1 because of warm weather. Now it will stay open eight days later than scheduled because some days have been virtually too cold for ice skating. The rink will remain open through Jan. 19. It had been expected to close on Jan. 11.
The rink is east of 42nd Street, between Emile Street and Dewey Avenue, north of the Sorrell Center for Health Science Education. Members of the public can skate for $7, including skate rental.
The spot will be reserved Friday and Saturday for the UNMC Skate-a-thon for Parkinson's disease. Otherwise, normal hours will continue. They are: Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 8 p.m.
