LINCOLN — The Star City Silverbacks capped an undefeated regular season with a national title.
The Silverbacks, 9-0 in the Heartland Youth Football League, rolled past defending national champion Red Creek Nation (Colo.) 37-13 in the 12 and under National Youth Football Championships earlier this winter.
The Silverbacks lost at regionals to an all-star team from Missouri and Kansas. They bounced back in the tournament in Las Vegas, beating the Paramount Pirates (Calif.) 19-6 before winning the national crown.
The Silverbacks finished their first season 12-1, averaging over 47 points per game and surrendering just 37 total.
“Coaching these young men is incredibly rewarding; watching them not only compete day in and day out, but come together and truly function as a team is special,’’ coach Chad Case said. “The sacrifices they make for each other throughout the football season directly correlate with the sacrifices they will continue to make as they get older. They learned to embrace the grind and that achieving great things does not come easy. They were willing to pay the price.’’
