A 24-year-old Council Bluffs man was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder in the October death of a 47-year-old Glenwood, Iowa, woman.
Chad Fortner is accused in the death of Carol Meston, according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
According to the Department:
On Oct. 12, police and paramedics were called to Meston’s home in Glenwood after someone reported an altercation. Fortner was staying with her at the time.
Fortner told investigators that during the altercation, Meston was knocked to the ground and hit her head on a piece of furniture, knocking her unconscious.
Meston never woke up and died the next day of her injuries.
An autopsy was conducted and Meston’s death was ruled a homicide.
Fortner is being held on $50,000 bond at the Mills County jail.
