LINCOLN — Nebraska I-back Ameer Abdullah has followed his All-Big Ten recognition with a third-team spot on the Associated Press All-America lineup.
Abdullah was one of 15 Big Ten players to earn first-, second- or third-team status Tuesday.
Abdullah already has rushed for 1,568 yards this season, the most by a Husker since Ahman Green with 1,877 in 1997. Abdullah, a 5-foot-9, 190-pounder from Homewood, Ala., has hit 100 yards in 10 of 12 games.
Overall, NU has had nine AP All-Americans in the past five seasons.
Andre Williams of Boston College and Ka'Deem Carey of Arizona were the first-team AP All-America picks at running back. Bishop Sankey of Washington and Tre' Mason of Auburn were the second-team selections, and Carlos Hyde of Ohio State joined Abdullah on the third team.
Williams led the nation with 2,102 rushing yards and was fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting. Sankey was third nationally with 1,775 yards, Carey fifth with 1,716, Mason sixth with 1,621 and Abdullah ninth.
Big Ten players earning first-team AP All-America honors were Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier and Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard. The league also had second-team picks with Wisconsin linebacker Chris Borland, Michigan State defensive end Shilique Calhoun and Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan.
