Trackside Lounge, at 1506 S. 60th St., will be back in business with a new name and a new owner in January.
Former middle school teacher Anne Konen has owned the building that housed Trackside for a year and a half. She recently decided to reopen the bar with a new name: Tracks.
Konen said she wanted to ensure the old Trackside would become a really nice neighborhood bar.
“When I walk in, I want to see the neighborhood,” she said,
Konen wants to get the bar back to its historical roots, which are greatly connected to the old Ak-Sar-Ben Racetrack.
“People would come into the bar and place bets and cry over their losings and celebrate their winnings in this bar because it was so close to the race track,” Konen said.
She's going to try to hang memorabilia from the old track. The bar will also continue to make chicken.
Trackside Lounge closed earlier this year after the death of former owner Stan Voecks in May. It first opened in 1965.
Konen hopes to have Tracks open within the first couple weeks of January. Its famous chicken will return soon after.
