Papillion residents and library patrons are invited to show off their ugliest holiday sweaters this season.
Sump Memorial Library is hosting its first Ugly Sweater Extravaganza.
From Friday through Dec. 20, people can post photos of themselves in their favorite ugly holiday sweaters to the library’s Facebook page.
The photo that receives the most Facebook “likes” will win $50.
Those who want to enter the contest must “like” the Sump Memorial Library’s Facebook page first.
Originally, library staff wanted to have an ugly sweater contest just amongst staff members, said Amy Wenzl, community engagement director. But they wanted to include patrons, so they decided to take it to social media.
In addition to allowing the inclusion of patrons in the contest, using Facebook is another way for the library to push their use of the social media platform, Wenzl said.
“It’s just a way for people to find out what’s going on in the library,” Wenzl said.
The contest extends beyond the Facebook posting and voting.
Between Dec. 13 and Dec. 20, photos of staff members in their sweaters will be on display.
Patrons can visit the library to cast a vote for their favorite.
“It’s just another way for us to celebrate the holidays and the season and get patrons excited about the library’s programs and services we offer,” Wenzl said.
