Omaha police said they arrested a 33-year-old man early Thursday after a short vehicle pursuit in northwest Omaha.
Police said Jeremy Hammel was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, flight to avoid arrest, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and following too close.
Officers said they reported to 102nd and Maple Streets about 2:30 a.m. over a hit-and-run accident involving an SUV, which was last seen heading east from the area.
The vehicle, a 2004 Dodge Durango, was spotted by police a short time later northbound at 90th and Maple Streets. Police tried to stop the vehicle at 94th and Sprague Streets, but Hammel fled north on 94th Street and then west on Ames Avenue before coming to a stop, police said. He was then arrested.
Wednesday morning, police arrested a 19-year-old man in a vehicle theft case.
Raymond Rhoades was arrested on suspicion of felony theft by unlawful taking and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. He is also facing a previous theft charge, police said.
Wednesday's theft occurred about 6:40 a.m. about two blocks north of 51st and Dodge Streets, police said.
Officers were told that a 39-year-old man had followed his stolen vehicle to 41st and Charles Streets, where Rhoades fled from the vehicle.
Police arrested Rhoades at 45th and Charles.
The theft victim told police that he was warming up the vehicle when it was taken by Rhoades, who backed into a fire-hydrant during the theft.
