COUNCIL BLUFFS — A Council Bluffs man allegedly set fire to his own home early Thursday with his mother and brother inside, police say.
Jacob A. Rolfe, 21, was arrested on suspicion of arson and two counts of attempted murder. He remained at the Pottawattamie County Jail. A court hearing was scheduled for this morning.
According to police and Fire Department reports, Rolfe allegedly poured gasoline in the kitchen and started the blaze about 1:20 a.m. His mother, Jill Rolfe, 41, and his 12-year-old brother were inside the house, at 112 DeLong Ave.
Initial reports stated that Jacob Rolfe told officials that he set the fire because he “was mad at his mother for being a bad mom.”
Police reports said Rolfe was intoxicated. Fire Marshal Curtis McKeon noted that Rolfe has a history of medical and mental health problems.
Fire crews knocked down the fire quickly, McKeon said. The kitchen was destroyed, there was smoke damage on the main floor, and there was water damage in the basement.
