CASPER, Wyo. — The Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team lost its quarterfinal match to Salt Lake Community College at the NJCAA Division I national tournament Thursday.
Iowa Western also lost as Hillsborough (40-4) pulled out a 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23 match.
Western Nebraska, which had lost just three matches entering nationals, won its first-round match earlier Thursday, sweeping Hutchinson, Kan., 25 17, 25-14, 25-23. Leticia Silva had 10 kills and Priscila Mendes and Kayla Martin seven each.
But the Cougars (43-4) weren’t able to break through against Salt Lake, falling 27-25, 25-19, 25-23. Allora Tanner led Western Nebraska with 10 kills, while Silva added nine.
Iowa Western (43-4) had opened with a 25-10, 24-26, 25-13, 26-24 win over New Mexico Military.
In the Division II tournament in Toledo, Ohio, Central Community College defeated Monroe College 25-22, 25-19, 25-23 and then lost to Cowley County 25-14, 26-24, 25-21. Skyler Erickson had 15 kills in the first match and Megan Anderson had 10 kills and five blocks in the second.
