COUNCIL BLUFFS — A Council Bluffs man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a pursuit ended in the Missouri River off Interstate 480.
Jamie Kennedy, 23, is accused of stealing a car and leading authorities on a chase down West Broadway, the Council Bluffs Police Department said.
Shortly after noon, Mills County dispatchers alerted Pottawattamie County authorities about a stolen vehicle that was at 16th Street and West Broadway in Council Bluffs. Officers spotted the car, and the OnStar Co. was able to disable it as it reached the I-480 bridge.
Kennedy ran toward the river, Sgt. Jason Bailey said. Kennedy crawled into the river, but when a K-9 officer with a police dog called for Kennedy to surrender, he did.
Authorities arrested Kennedy on suspicion of first-degree theft, eluding police, a probation violation and a litany of traffic violations that occurred during the pursuit.
